Dog Friendly Tours By Susan and Art

TawnyIt’s dusk! You’re walking across one of the most famous bridges in the world. The sun is setting, and the panoramic outline of Manhattan looms in the background. You marvel at the skyline and walk to the promenade; tree-lined with outdoor cafes, looking as much like a Parisian setting as is imaginable. But, ‘lo and behold, you’re in Brooklyn and less than one mile from the heart of the most exciting large walking city in the United States!

New York is listed as the safest walking city in the country. Are you surprised? Don’t be! Walking is the pastime of the majority of the inhabitants of Manhattan. Contrary to popular belief, New York City is a terrific place to travel with your four-legged family member.  Picture

Picture - There are 120,000 licensed dogs in the City, so it makes logical sense that it’s dog friendly. There are numerous dog runs, dog sitting establishments, groomers and other amenities which make it conducive to bringing along your companion.

Art & TawnyBut planning is the key ingredient to visiting New York City. The City is the most wondrous of places with all the major tourist sites that it has to offer. However, to the true native, it is the diverse neighborhoods, of real people comprised of every culture and conceivable nationality, which make New York the fascinating city that it is.

Most of this is done on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis since this is the only way to appreciate the City without running any of your ragged!

As an example, our favorite spot is Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village which has the best city dog run that you will ever see! (Besides which the Park has over 10,000 people buried under it – that’s a lot of bones!) Within proximity of Washington Square Park, you can comfortably walk to Soho, the West Village, the East Village, Chinatown, Little Italy, the South Street Seaport and the Wall Street area.

So, if you were considering a trip to New York City, but you put it off because you didn’t want to leave your family member home, now reconsider your thinking!  Our Golden Retriever, Tawny, would love to make you feel at home and be your guide.

Contact us at info@ztravelandleisure.comWe would be happy to make recommendations for pet friendly hotels and to arrange a guided tour of the City, by our family, for your "entire" family. As lifelong New Yorkers, we would love to show you how great our city can be for both humans and their special pet companions.

Check our calendar for any dog-friendly walking tours of New York City we may have coming up!
